An email to SMS gateway address is the ten digit mobile number followed by the carrier's domain, such as 5555550123@vtext.com on Verizon. Of the 16 US carriers we checked on 21 and 22 September 2026, Verizon and Google Fi state the address on their own pages, T-Mobile and Consumer Cellular name the domain without the format, 9 have an address reported only by a third party on a domain that still takes mail, and Cricket Wireless and Boost Mobile have none. Addresses come in three tiers, each labelled: the carrier states the address on its own page; the carrier names the domain but not the format; or only a third-party page states it, which we print where the domain still has mail servers, as not confirmed by the carrier. "None published" means we found no source, or the domain has no mail servers. Lists elsewhere repeat addresses that carriers have switched off, such as AT&T's, which stopped working on 17 June 2025.
The email to SMS gateway address
An email to SMS gateway address is an email address made from a mobile number and a domain the carrier or provider runs, and email sent to it arrives as a text.
Verizon's own page gives the example format 5555555555@vtext.com for text and VZWPix.com for pictures, and Google Fi's page gives your 10 digit number at msg.fi.google.com, both read 21 September 2026.
The carrier decides whether the address works today, and the table shows what each carrier publishes.
Email to SMS for business sending
Carrier email to SMS gateways are closing, and Verizon says its service is intended for low-volume consumer use only and not for business or A2P messages. Verizon has begun shutting down its legacy email to text service and anticipates completing the shutdown by 31 March 2027.
AT&T shut its gateway on 17 June 2025. Twilio wrote in July 2024 that, starting 31 July 2024, it actively enforces policies that prohibit using carrier-provided or other email to SMS gateways for commercial use.
Business SMS providers run their own email to SMS feature, which sends the text from the provider's registered number rather than through the carrier's free gateway. ClickSend, Notifyre and Kudosity publish the address format each one uses, and replies come back to the sending inbox at all three.

How to send an email to text
Check the carrier runs a gateway
Look up which carrier runs the number, then check its support pages for a gateway address. Of the 16 carriers we checked on 21 September 2026, only Verizon and Google Fi publish a working address format.
AT&T shut its gateway, and the rest publish no address on the pages checked.
The Sprint gateway domains no longer exist in DNS.
Build the gateway address
Put the 10 digit mobile number in front of the carrier domain. Verizon's example format is 5555555555@vtext.com for text, with VZWPix.com for pictures, and Google Fi's format is your 10 digit number at msg.fi.google.com.
Send a plain text email
Send the message as plain text from your account. T-Mobile names the domain tmomail.net on a support page about plain text email, read 21 September 2026, with no address format and no statement that the service is supported.
Register an address with a provider
For business sending, register your email address with a business SMS provider, then send from that address.
ClickSend needs your address registered as an Allowed Address before you send to mobile-number@sms.clicksend.com. Notifyre needs the address added in its SMS settings, and it asks for an EIN and 10DLC registration to get a number. Kudosity needs an authorized email domain.

How do I find my SMS gateway address?
Check the support pages of the carrier behind your number, since the address comes from the carrier. We checked 16 carriers on 21 September 2026, and only Verizon and Google Fi publish a working address format. UScellular documents no email to text address on its own site, and its support pages now carry T-Mobile branding.
Is email-to-SMS discontinued?
Email to SMS is discontinued at some carriers. AT&T shut its gateway on 17 June 2025, and its support page says texts by email no longer work. Verizon is closing its legacy email to text service and anticipates completion by 31 March 2027. Google Fi still publishes a working address, your 10 digit number at msg.fi.google.com.

Can you send an email to text?
Yes, where the carrier still runs a gateway. You put the 10 digit mobile number in front of the carrier domain, so 5555555555@vtext.com is Verizon's example format for text and Google Fi uses your number at msg.fi.google.com. An email sent to the address then arrives on the phone as a text.
Is email to text going away?
Email to text is going away at the carriers. Of the 16 carriers we checked on 21 September 2026, only 2 publish a working address format. AT&T has shut its gateway, and the Sprint gateway domains no longer exist in DNS. Business SMS providers still run their own email to SMS feature from a registered number.

The carrier gateways are the free option, and Verizon says the service is intended for low-volume consumer use only, not for business or A2P messages. That free option is shrinking as the gateways close. Twilio prohibits commercial use of the carrier gateways, and business SMS providers document their own email to SMS feature for commercial sending.
